Maths Challenge

On the homework I had to do the answer to my Family Maths Challenge. Here it is:

This stairway is made of cubes. How many cubes would be needed to make the steps 9 steps high?

Well for me to work out the answer I drew the first 3 stairs then made a number chart with 1 to 9 on it. Next I drew up the remaining stairs. I finally counted up a few easy numbers wrote them down and added them up with a calculator. And I got the answer 45. But I realised it was just a 9 times table, 9 times 5=45. There was my answer.
