In class we have been learning about the Nicene Creed. We have learnt what the words mean in each paragraph. It is a prayer of beliefs to all Catholics and their Catholic Faith.

Melbourne Cup Day

On the 3rd of November it was Melbourne Cup and we could wear a fascinator to school. At school we did games and activities to celebrate Melbourne Cup. We watched the race and who ever came first, second, third or last got a lolly. We had stacks of fun and want to do it again next year.

Green Screens

In school time our class has been making green screens. A green screen is like a film making set with a green sheet behind the scene. What it does is it makes you look like you are in front of like something you really aren't. We did our screen on Myst like we were in the game. We had a script and it had what we said on it. We didn't have a green screen we had a white screen which was a wall. Everybody has seen a green screen before like on TV how they do the weather report. There in front of a green screen. Have you noticed why they don't wear green? Because if they wear green {the same as the wall} they look like they are in visible. Green screens are heaps of fun and are a good web 2.0 tool.

Myst Art

In class we are doing Myst, Myst is a computer game that helps with writing and describing things. For art we did a Myst picture. It looked like we were drawing a shadow, so it looked like the main bits were black and the background was colourful. We used pastels to draw with and smugged it to make it look realistic. And by smugging the picture it blended the colours together dramatically. After all was done they all looked amazing with the cool coloured backgrounds.

Halloween,All Saints Day,All Souls Day

On the 31st of October every year it is Halloween. Halloween is a special day for in the church because it is the day before other special days. Halloween means {hallowed eve} or even {holy eve}. On the 1st of November it is All Saints Day. All Saints Day is when we pray for those people who have become saints. On the 2ND of November it is All Souls Day, on this day we pray for those who have past away.

Camp

While my class learnt about the moon and tides we wrote 2 paragraphs about what we learnt. Please leave a comment on this post.

During my investigation I found out that the highest tide I recorded was 2.46m, I discovered the tide that was recorded highest was on the day of a new moon. The lowest high tide I recorded was 1.89m on the day of a last quarter. I found out that the highest tide is on a new moon and the lowest is on a last quarter. This is because the moon changes phase and the tides change heights and times. Everyday these phases, times and heights change.

Many people rely on the tides like fisherman. Fisherman rely on tides so they can catch yabbys etc. for bait in a low tide. High tide is when they go and fish for whiting etc.

Maths Challenge

This weeks maths challenge was trying to find as many mathematical words you could starting with M. I found 11 words that I knew and understood. Those words were mathematical, minus, multiple, multiplication, maximize, minimize, mean, minute, millennium, mass, multiply and million.

The way I found out these words was looking up mathematical words starting with M on google. I wasn't in luck so I tried maths words. I found a dictionary with maths words in it. There were many but a lot I didn't understand, so I didn't add them to the list.

Today I read a book called Lily and Me. A sad story about a girl, a man, a skull ring and the joy of life. Read this book and you will have tears. When I finished the book I almost burst into tears. It's sad but you gotta read it. This book is by Moses Arron who is the man that knows Lily. This book was published in 1996. I loved this book and think it is good to read anywhere. Yes it's sad but I recommend it to everyone. I rate it 10/10.

Today I read ''The Only Pony'' by David Metzenthen. This book is an Aussie Nibbles book. Which it's short and has big writing. I like this book because it's about a girl named Bessie and her father a painter.Bessie dreamed of having her own pony one day. Bessie goes to the train station and gets tickets to go to the country and learn to ride a horse. Will her father say yes or no. Find out in the Book ''The Only Pony''. I rate this book 10/10 for it's easy to read.

Today I read ''The Key To Rondo'' by Emily Rodda. This book is about a boy named Leo Langlander and his least favourite cousin Mimi Langlander who comes to stay in Leo's house. Mimi and Leo discover a secret world like no other. When they find out they are the ones to save the world from the witch ''The Blue Queen'' and save Mimi's dog Mutt a cute but small watch dog. They are risking the end of the world Rondo. And will Mimi and Leo get along? I rate this book 10/10 because it's an easy read but there are a couple of words in there that are tricky. There is a second book called The Wizard Of Rondo and what happens is Mimi and Leo have to find the wizard before ''The Blue Queen''. I encourage others to read it for it is a good book.

Today our class read the book of Ruth in the bible. We made our own book of Ruth which was smaller. We read chapter 2-1:20. We came across many words we didn't know how to spell. So today we looked some up in a dictionary. And some meanings we knew a little bit about already. We finished the book of Ruth today and made a glossary for the words we didn't know. And some of the words were barley, fleshing, fleshing floor and some more.

In class to help us with our writting and making them longer and more fun we have started to play myst. I f you dont know what myst is I can tell you. Myst is a computer game you can get for a nintendo ds and more. It is a mystery solving game so for the people who like mysteries your in luck. I have inproved on my writting and so has the class. I did myst last year and so did an other class. So our teacher has a feeling we'll be closer to finishing then last year. I love myst and hope to do next year too.

Book Week

On Wednesday our school celebrated book week. What book week is when you dress up as your favourite book character. Some people dressed up as Judy Moody, Matilda, Aunt Sponge or Aunt Spiker, Fancy Nancy and even Indiana Jones. It was super fun. This year the theme was Book Safari. If you didn't want to dress up as a book character you could have gone as an explorer or a Safari animal. Everybody dressed up and had a lot of fun. The school's librarians even changed the library into a themed safari jungle. And cut all the pictures of teachers heads and put them on an animals. They looked so funny. Maybe you could do it at your school too. On the same day every year. It would be stacks of fun.

The way I filled in my grid in was that I was able to slot in some of the names straight away, because it gave me row and column. Then, I worked out some more as they were located next to, above or below the names already on the grid. The rest I had to guess, like Winnie The Pooh, who had "new member" next to it. I also had to put some names in spots with a question mark (?) next to them, in case another name went there after more working out.

So, I eventually got all the names in the right spots, with the last name being Winnie.

Maths Challenge

On the homework I had to do the answer to my Family Maths Challenge. Here it is:

This stairway is made of cubes. How many cubes would be needed to make the steps 9 steps high?

Well for me to work out the answer I drew the first 3 stairs then made a number chart with 1 to 9 on it. Next I drew up the remaining stairs. I finally counted up a few easy numbers wrote them down and added them up with a calculator. And I got the answer 45. But I realised it was just a 9 times table, 9 times 5=45. There was my answer.

Homework Task

For my homework this week in the family challenge section I had to work out the answer to this: Paul had 2 dozen=24 carrot cookies. He will eat three on Sunday. On every day that follows, he will eat a number that is one greater than the day before. On what day did he find out that he couldn't follow the pattern????

I worked out the answer by using my mathematics and wrote down the days of the week. Then I put 3 strikes under Sunday then 4 on Monday, 5 under Tuesday, 6 under Wednesday then I added it up and I got the answer 18. I put 7 under Thursday and added it up to make sure it worked and I got 25 but I checked how many cookies Paul had and he had 24. I found out that it was Thursday that Paul found out that he couldn't keep the pattern going.

How Do I or We Affect The Health of Our Planet

I think we affect the health of our planet by using too many plastic bags, littering and more. There are also gases that are let off by cows, cars, trains, electricity, public transport and so on. These gases are called methane gas, halocarbons, nitrous oxide, happy gas, carbons and fossil fuels. All these gases are affecting our planet and we need to do something to help, so what we can do in our school is a worm farm, no plastic day, clean up our school and lots more. In our house we could do a worm farm, use both bins non recyclable and recyclable and maybe even try not using plastic for a week. Please leave a comment and tell me more ideas to stop us from affecting the health of our planet.

How Laws Are Made In Australia

For my homework this week I had learn about how laws are made in Australia. This is what I think it is. The two principal sources of law in Australia are case law made by the courts and legislation made by parliaments. Prior to 1850, most parliaments were not very active in making laws. Cases were decided as they came to court and judges published their decisions, including the reason for the decision, in law reports. Other judges could consult these reports and use them as precedents for deciding their own cases. This is what is known as common law.The Commonwealth Constitution gives the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia the power to make laws about certain areas. Defence, immigration and telegraphic services are examples of subjects on which the Commonwealth has the power to enact laws. Road rules, the buying and selling of property and criminal laws in general, are examples of matters that are exclusively within the legislative power of the States. This is because these subject areas are not within the listed powers of the Commonwealth parliament. The Commonwealth Constitution is seen as the fundamental document of empowerment in the Australian political and legal systems.

Today I found out about a new shape. Its name is a parallelogram {parallel a gram} it has four equal sides or more. Mrs R numbered us off one, two, three, four and five. All the ones over here twos over there and so on. I was group four and we had to find out about a particularly odd shape we had never heard about before. We had to find out information about the shape and then make a poster to hang up in the classroom. Some of the parallelogram family you will know here are some of them square, rectangle and a rhombus. And many more but I can't list all of them.

Sommerset Celebration Of Literature

On Wednesday the 18 of February 20 students from our 4/5 classes were chosen to go to the Somerset Celebration of Literature. At the celebration we met some famous authors like: Andy Griffiths, Susan Garvey, John Heffernan and Deborah Abela some of those authors you will know. I got Andy Griffiths autograph on his book The Cat On The Mat Is Flat which is very funny and just crazy!!! I loved the day and wished for it to go on for ever so I could ask more questions and get the answers!!! But still I LOVED IT!!!

My Reading Response On "Marly and Me"

In class we are reading Marley and Me. We have just started it and are up to chapter page. It is a great book so far but I am not going to tell you what happens in the story you have to read it and I have to say I already love it. The book is called Marley a dog like no other, but the movie is called Marley and Me. Marley the book is a great read and I recommend it to all the dog lovers and hope you like it. If I had to give the book a rating it would be 9/10 so far. Here is the picture of the front cover so if you want to read it you will know what it looks like.

Maths

Almost everyday we do maths in class for an hour. Sometimes we will play a maths game or write sums in our books and figure the answer out. Other times we just do maths on the board and write it down. Mrs R usually gives us an easy sum to start off with but then she gets harder. But I like the easy ones better.

Dance Cart

At school on a Monday we have Dance Cart. Dance Cart is not a style of dancing but is a group of people who teach us a dance. We are dancing to the song from Kung Fu Panda. We have already started the dance and are half way through it. Before we start dancing we do all sorts of stretchers to warm up our bodies up in case we pull a muscle. The thing I like most about Dance Cart is how they do moves to go with the song e.g. we are dancing to Kung Fu Panda so we do lots of kicking. I like dancing!!!

Super Star

Every afternoon my class will do Super Star, my teacher will pick someone who has been doing well with their work and they will be the Super Star. The Super Star will get a lollie pop and a sticker.They also get to choose someone to go out with them early.We all get a turn. I like being a star!!!

Assembly

On a Monday afternoon we have assembly in the church. Children receive student of the week awards for great work done or fantastic behaviour. We also celebrate with children and teachers who have had a birthday. We sing happy birthday to them in our loudest singing voice. Other important dates and notices are also announced to the school community. To end our school assembly we sing our school song.

Today my teacher was away so we had a different teacher and we played buzz and don't break the ice. How you play buzz is you multiply a number, you start at 1 and every fourth number you say buzz and when you don't say the right number or say buzz you are out of the game. How you play don't break the ice is you get into a circle and spell your spelling words then when you are finished spelling the word you say: don't break the ice! and when you land on ice you sit down. If you don't spell the word right you sit down as well.
